Tips for Professional Landscape Lighting Installation

  1. When installing path light fixtures along a walk or pathway, pick only one side in which to install the fixtures. You want to avoid the dreaded “airport runway look”.
  2. Limit the number of path light fixtures so as to create “pockets of light” along the walk or path. This will create a more desirable look.
  3. Use large, beefy fixture stakes to anchor the fixtures. It is advantageous to discard some manufacturer’s small, wimpy fixture stakes. Invest in quality stakes, which will keep fixtures firmly planted in the ground.
  4. Bury the low voltage feed wires 2-3” below grade. Low voltage wire installed just under the mulch (but not in the ground) can eventually start showing as the mulch breaks down or blows away.
  5. Always install fixtures plumb and level. Nothing distracts from a landscape lighting project more than leaning light fixtures. In extremely rocky soil or soil with many tree roots, use the Light Fixer accessory to easily make the fixture plumb and level.
