Spring Maintenance for your landscape Lighting

With spring and its warmer temperatures, now is the time to think about doing a bit of maintenance on your landscape lighting. Winter, with its ice and snow, can wreak havoc on your lighting fixtures.

Five things to do to assure that your lighting is ready to enjoy in the upcoming summer months:

  1. Check for cracked or damaged glass on the light fixture. Damaged glass can allow both bugs and moisture into the fixture; shortening the life of both the light socket and bulb.
  2. Check for malfunctioning fixtures. Inspect the bulb, socket and light low voltage connectors and replace any defective items.
  3. Check for loose or wobbly fixtures. Freezing and thawing of the ground can cause fixture stakes to become loose or misaligned.
  4. Clean any bugs, bird droppings or debris from the light fixtures and lens. Use a mild, non-abrasive soap with water and a soft cloth. Yearly cleaning will help keep your lights looking fresh and new
  5. Straighten any “off kilter” light fixtures. Carefully reposition the light fixture mounting stake to level and plumb the “off kilter” fixture. NEVER pull on the light fixture itself to realign the fixture as this could easily damage both the fixture and mounting stake. To easily adjust your off kilter fixtures year after year, install the new revolutionary Light Fixer accessory. This can be purchased online at www.lightfixers.com.
