In construction, a solid, stable building requires a proper foundation. Similarly, a durable and appealing landscape lighting installation begins with the right ground stake.
Nearly all pro-grade landscape light manufacturers now include a ground stake with the purchase of a light fixture. Unfortunately, most of these ground stakes are woefully inadequate. The small, cheap stakes can quickly become unlevel when tested by time and weather. This results in a sloppy, unprofessional appearance that, consequently, requires a service call to correct.
With many landscape lights now being 20” or higher, a 6” ground stake cannot properly support the fixture. The key to a rock-solid installation is discarding these small ground stakes in favor of a 10” ground stake.
The 10” stake also pairs nicely with the Light Fixer accessory found at www.lightfixers.com, which allows for easy leveling of landscape lights over the life of the fixtures.
When meeting with a customer, show them the “included” fixture stake as well as the more robust 10” ground stake. This will likely result in an easy upgrade/sale to include the use of the 10” ground stake.
For a professional and impressive landscape light installation, remember to start with a good foundation – a large sturdy ground stake.
